Please bear with me, I need to vent a bit. I tried to buy parts today at the local auto parts store (one of those stupid chain stores) and I can't believe that these people can hold a job and not know what the $(*&%#(* they are selling! Years ago we had several auto parts stores here where you could throw a piece on the counter (didn't matter if it was car, tractor, or some other obscure piece of machinery) and they would do their best to find something that would work, heck half the time they knew what it was and off of. Now all we have here are two chain stores run by a bunch of kids who have trouble finding stuff on the shelf (I'm not exagerating here...he actually told me today that he wasn't sure if he could find it and he has worked there for 6mo. which should probably qualify him for retirement for that long of a stay). I would gladly travel and pay extra for a place to purchase parts from someone who cared and would do their best to help you out, I am tired of hearing that it isn't listed on the computer. It is getting to the point where the hard part of any project is just to get the correct parts in less than 20 questions. I hope you all don't mind my off topic rant but I needed to vent somewhere to someone who understands what I am going through.

Thanks

A good vent by you. I have grown to understand that that's what to expect at those places. Fortunately for me I live in metro Atlanta and can go to NAPAs warehouse store about 15 minutes drive whenever I know it's not a listed item.
Think about it, the Wal-Marts and grocery stores use scanners to price and automated registers to determine totals and change. It's a way of live. Can anyone add and subtract anymore ???

Good parts houses are tough to find .If there ain't a gray haired fella behind the counter there ain't much sense in going in.

I know where you are comming from on todays so called parts places or should I say "parts less have it tomorrow" places . Went to one of the chain stores a while back , computerized and all , wanted parts for a 454 , the person didn't know what I was talking about , brand or anything . I said Chevy , they said there is no such thing showing up , finally I gave in and asked if they show a 7.4L , then they came to life because computer showed a 7.4L . I kind of played around with them saying that when this '84 truck was built they called it a 454ci , but we have 1973 heads on it and a 1968 427 intake and carb on it . Now where do you look in your computer for parts for it ??? Then he asked me how can I make it run all messed up like that . You go in and ask for parts for a K-30 big block , then go through the is it a half ton , 2 or 4wd , what engine and on and on to me it gets disgusting and time wasting . Farm machinery same way seems like anymore . I have parts books for every thing and if I send anybody for parts I usually call first with the #### saves lots of grief . Seems like they all have too much extra add on cosmetic junk and not enough good old patrs . When they say it'll be here tomorrow I usually say if I needed it tomorrow I would have came in tomorrow .I don't like the way it is today but I guess that's what they call progress .

Don't feel bad, this is just a part of life in modern day America. Next time, though, you might want to try NAPA.

Would love to try NAPA but they are gone. We used to have a company owned store here with top notch guys behind the counter ... BUT.... NAPA in in infinite wisdom closed the store since someone wanted to open a franchise store. Again this place was staffed with kids and ..... .you know the rest. The funny part is I went in one time looking for a Deere part which I have bought at NAPA all along and they informed me that this was an auto parts store they were surprised to find that there was such a thang call a John Deere in all those books on the counter. Anyways, this store quit NAPA and has some other franchise now....which really doesn't matter much since I usually try to avoid the place.

BTW....does anyone know anyplace on the net to get parts? I have found a place this way for my Gravely stuff and you can't beat this place for service.

Thanks again
