Ted, it depends on what is jumping out, 5th gear or the overdrive. ~Does the lever move out of the slot when it jumps out of gear?
~Does it jump out of second also? [assumes a regular quadrant with regular gear sets]
~Do you have the standard trans gear sets [1st in the upper L/H slot,or the optional 3rd/5th gear sets [1st across from reverse]?

Clooney, yes it comes all way out of slot in 5th gear. 1st is in top LH corner. 720 is a std if that makes any difference. Haven't tried it in 2nd. 3rd and 5th are on RH side of shift box at top. Ted

Ted, if the lever is moving you probably have either worn sliding or counter shaft bearings, twisted or worn splines on the sliding gear shaft, worn splines in the 2nd/5th sliding gear, sever mis-adjustment of the 2nd/5th shift rail, worn detents on the shift rail, or a little of each.
~See if it pops out of second also, [they use the same gear sets]. If so you will probably have to go into the trans to find the problem
