Anybody know of a good gear puller to get my fanshaft gear off the shaft, on an unstyled B.
The puller i've got keeps slipping off the back side of the gear.
Thanks Steve

Steve, I use a 3 jaw with a tension adjuster to keep the jaws tight & usually still have to use a little heat. ~The best way is an arbor press, but that long shaft is too long for mine [one of these days I'm going to bore a hole in the floor under the press] ..... .....

Clooney, we are on the exact same page!! We have an arbor press at work, but it's not tall enough. I thought about laying it on it's side. But the I(eye) beam isn't wide enough to stuff the assymbly through. Thanks, for the tip I'll pick up that three jaw with the tension adjust.
Thanks again
Steve

Steve: Is the other end of the shaft "clean"? Try slipping a heavy washer or short piece of pipe onto the other end and trying your puller on that. If you can't get a washer on, perhaps you can "collar" the shaft behind the gear with a 2-piece bracket like the one used with a copper tube flaring tool.

Just rebuilt the fan shaft on my 41 B. Had the same problem. Bought a 12,000lb press from Habour Freight. ($99) Not tall enough with for the fan shaft so I set the press up stratling between a workbench and a movable bench of the same height. Had the gear off in a few seconds. Also helps in pushing that fan back to get the keepers out easily. No more swedged out shafts with the press. That press was of my better investments, don't need my big hammers now.
