JD 6400 FWD problem and digitial display problem

First FWD problem: Symptoms are: at low speeds 1-2 mph there is a vibration in the front wheels without FWD disengaged and if the loader has a heavy load on it, it is significantly worst. It seems that wheels are trying to fight the freewheeling action. Could it be the slip clutch plates in the diff. Causing this to happen?
Digital display problem: Cannot select the different modes (pto rpm, eng rpm, mph, kmhr, and hourmeter)on the display after setting any particular mode and leaving it in that mode are some time. If you disconnect the fuse or battery and reconnect it works normal for a period of time. Any ideas on these issues?

Ken,

The display could be as simple as a pull up resistor around the uP or display driver or uP display combination part. The power on reset is setting all the lines to zero, and at some point one or more lines are probably floating between zero and five -- which those Oriental CMOS uP's are real good at doing. Assuming you've got no tech manual, first step would be to ohm out all the resistors around the uP -- in particular the line from that momentary selector switch -- looking for the odd one in terms of resistance. I'm guessing they're onsert parts, not thru hole -- so it takes a good, and small soldering iron to work on those things.

No experience with FWD. Sorry.

Most of the guys on this board are working on machines that are over 20 years old -- which surely don't have processors, displays or FWD. You might get some better answers by posting on the today's tractor discussion forum.
