Have 3020 gas powershift, uses about 5 gallons per hour (plowing 4-14 or baling hay) Neighbors have a 4010 gas and they say it uses 2-2.5 gallons per hour. What can be done it help mine get better fuel usage? Does it make a difference if thermostat is good, no sure what kind of car is on it. It looks like a cast iron body. Any help would be great.

That 4010 must be a diesel to get that, and then not working. More likely he is burning 6-7 gal per hour weather he is working it or not. Your 3020 is about right. Don

My 3020 gas when discing, baling, mowing, etc., is within the 5 +/- gal/hr range. According to the other posts, this seems to be the "norm" for this tractor.

I tend to agree with your figures not the ones on the friends 4010. It sounds like when I compare MPG with anyone on cars and trucks I almost always get worse MPG then they say they are. I guess the only way to see for sure is to go borrow his next time you need to plow fill it up to the top plow for one hour then see how much it takes to fill it,maybe better to have him run it to show you how he gets such fantastic fuel savings. Who knows it just might do it ?

Your 3020G should take 5 to 7 gallons per hour under full load if it is runnig well & pulling well. A gallon of gasoline contains the energy for about 10HP for 1 hour, so to get 65HP for an hour you need about 6.5 gallon. If the 4010G is using 2 gallons an hour, then it is only putting out about 20 HP (maybe pulling a light wagon at 1/2 rpm).
