I need some assistance on what certain parts in the Hydraulic pump should look like. I have the pump off and in the parts book it shows an Oil Seal Bearing, is this bearing suppose to be solid brass? Also how tight should the PTO shaft fit against this Oil Seal Bearing. OK now next there is the Cup that contains packing, my pump does not have this packing nor does it have the Oil Seal Washer that goes between the packing and the big spring inside the pump. I have a feeling this is why my hydraulic oil was disappearing, was leaking back into the gear box. So please let me know what the Oil Seal Bearing is suppose to look like and how tight should it fit. I am calling John Deere to see if I can get the packing, missing Oil Seal Washer, and Oil Seal Bearing.

Thank you.

I think they are brass and a cup holds packings to seal it to the shaft by spring pressure. The brass seals against something by contact.

How do you get the brass bushing out? and then put a new brass bushing in? I want to replace it since the pto shaft seemed to have some slop in it when I moved it around in the brass bushing. Hopefully replacing the brass bushing and the packing material around the PTO shaft will keep the hydraulic oil from leaking back into the gear box.

Scott.

I would not attempt it until I had a new one in my hand. It has been a very long time since I did one of these, but most bushings I either drive out or cut through long ways with a hacksaw if they go clear through. or if a blind bushing or one that goes to shoulder I cut out with a round chisel that the end is ground out to form a U shaped dip in center making two sharp edges start one in seam where bushing meets casting and drive down a little at a time and it tends to cut the bushing peeling it into the U shape,it will sometimes scar the casting and I dress it up with a dremel before driving in the new one. Sometimes the new presized bushings are looser than the one you took out so you may not be ahead to do it unless it is very bad .
