Ok, not a John Deere. It is a 8N ford. But this is the board I love. Battery has 6.02 volts. Won't turn over. Just clicks. When you hit the switch. The voltage goes to 1.25-1.5 volts on both ends of the solenoid. It is a cheap TSC battery. It is 2 years old. Positive ground still. When jumped with 12V off of a car. It spins over and starts. But it don't spin over supper fast. Just kind of normal starts. Is the battery junk? Or is the starter shot? Before my friend spends money. I thought I would pass this past you. Thanks for your help and everyone else that helps.

Clooney is right, it sounds like a dead battery to me, but check your cables and connections, too.
If I remember correctly, a fully-charged lead-acid battery should produce 2.2 volts per cell. So a fully-charged 6-volt battery should have 6.6 volts, and a 12-volt battery should have 13.2. That's why alternators and generators produce up to 2.5 volts more than system voltage, to fully charge the batteries. Most of the alternators on the newer JD tractors charge in the 14.2 to 14.5 range. I've seen guys test alternators and say it's got 12.4 volts so it's charging - not so. You can correct me if I'm wrong here, Cloney.

Will P, it sure sounds like a dead battery. ~What is the battery voltage during cranking? If under 4.5-5 volts charge the battery & re-try & re-measure the battery voltage during cranking. ~If still under 4.5-5 volts cranking, either replace the battery with a KNOWN good one & re-try, or use a shunt type ammeter & measure the starter draw during cranking.
~It's hard to tell a dragging starter from a low battery as a bad starter will drag the battery voltage down during cranking.....

Dirty/corroded battery terminals can also be the culprit. Sometimes the grey coating looks so much like lead that it's hard to see.
