My 720 LP has started coming out of gear only while under load in all the gears on the low side and reverse. Had to replace a bearing in the trans a couple of years ago. Do you think it is a fork adjustment problem or do I have a larger problem brewing?

Scott: I've found that the best way to approach these transmission is to tear them down and examine for damaged or highly worn parts. Over the years wear allows the countershaft and and lower shaft with cone bearing to wear. The shaft get excess clearance and eventually will cause a binding type wear. I tore into a 730 and it had been abused and the upper shaft was even bowed from being in a bind. The splines were even twisted. I could not get the sliding gear off and had to remove as a unit. If these trasmissions were adjusted at intervals, say every 10-20 years most of them would be in perfect shape. A lot of people just keep on using them till they final tear up, burst cases, strip teeth etc. This is very possible as the straight cut gear till tend to override one another with excessive wear. My advise if to revitatize your transmission. Some of the gears are pricy to put a figure of possible $500-1000 in your budget.

Thanks guys, I'll do more research when I get a chance to quit running it. I don't think the problem is terminal because it has pulled a grain drill over almost 500 acres and it is not any worse.

Scott, it sure sounds like the sliding gear shaft pinion is popping out of the drive shaft gear [input shaft] while under load.
~There are many causes for that happening, [usually worn bearings on the input or sliding gear shaft(s)], but a bent under drive/overdrive shift fork, worn or non-functioning overdrive shifter lock, worn teeth on the drive pinion or inside the transmission drive gear, or slight chance of a mis-adjusted shift rail.
~Does the shift lever move out of the slot or move at all when it pops out of gear? [if not you are probably looking a an underdrive/overdrive problem]
~Does the shift lever go all the way to the side of the gate slot when putting it in the low range gears?
~Can you feel a spring tension on the shift lever when it is in the bottom cross over slot? [if not suspect a broken overdrive shifter lock spring]
~Does it ALWAYS pop out of low range gears while under load? [or just sometimes?] ~If only sometimes, try moving the shift lever to the cross over slot [all the way to the bottom of the quadrant] then slowly moving the shift lever all the way to the right, then pop the shift lever to the L/H side of the quadrant with a good swat using the palm of your hand. If that stops the popping out of gear you probably have a shift rail, shifter adjustment or shifter fork problem, if it doesn't make any difference, your problem lies farther in & you will have to dig into it to find the problem..... ..... .
