Mike, It's a sideways crank, or, probably the correct term is transverse; not longitudinal. Anyway, you don't need to split the tractor. You do need to remove at least the clutch on one side and flywheel on the other to get the crank out sideways. This is after you've pulled the rod ends thru the crankcase cover...and probably pulled the head, pistons, etc. If you really luck out and it's only a bad rod bearing, maybe it was shut down in time and the rod journals on the crank are OK. While you're there, check the oil pump and lines -- in my experience the rod bearings are usually the first thing to go when the oil pressure drops to 0. Next items on the hit parade are the main bearings. If this kind of work doesn't phase you, and the seller is right about the rod bearing, you might have a good deal at $750.00. If he's padding the truth or simply doesn't know the truth, you may be in for more than you anticipated. Sometimes the expression: "you pays your money and you takes your chances." really applies.
