My DLTX 51 was making my G cut up so I borrowed a carb off another G and that made the G run mid 50's(hp)on the dyno.I had to return the carb and use mine.I took it all apart and cleaned and blowed all the holes out.Runs good at idle and decent at high idle but when loaded it cuts up like it is not getting enough fuel.I richened up the load needle and it made no difference under a load.I was going to send it to Roberts carb but I was told this was his show season and he was cleaning off his bench,so thats out.I am going to soak it again and try a new needle and seat and gasket kit.I have new throttle bushings, shaft, and felts already in it.Choke is tight and not sucking air.I will reset the float level too.Is there a vent that could be blocked and causing a vaccume in the bowl?Is a super 51 too much for a stock cam? Thanks for any help.

Forgive me as I don't remember every carb # is a 51 the right one for the G? If so G carbs have an extra hole in the main stem to let more fuel into
the center in addition to the hole that the adjustment needle goes into. If you can't get enough gas in with the needle about out I'd suspect that extra hole is rusted shut. I've seen it before even on carbs that have been sold to people as rebuilt.

Jack, first make sure the carb has a full flow of fuel [through it], open the bottom carb drain & make sure you have a pencil sized stream of fuel for at least 30 seconds.
~Then make sure the nozzle is correct for your carb & the spring is under it.
~Then make sure all the little holes in the side of the nozzle are open.
~Then make sure the main well feed hole [you have to look hard to find it if it's rusted shut] & jet the main needle screws into is open & at full size.
~Then make sure the bowl vent is open [completely] to both the bowl & main well.
~Usually when the problem is under load or at high throttle openings the problem is in the main well, nozzle [the little holes plug up] or vent.

More than likely, you have some plugging of the internal passages in your carb. It probably needs to be completely disassembled and all the little plugs removed. Then the passages need to be cleaned out with properly sized drill bits. I believe you can get the bits from Robert's. A friend of mine that pulls several Gs recently did the complete disassemble/clean out thing to one of his carbs, and the difference in performance was impressive. Although it is possible to over-carburete an engine, I don't think a Super-51 is going to be overkill on your engine, as the fuel is basically metered by the amount of air entering the engine. Someone with some Super-51 experience may be able to tell you more. If nothing else, call Robert and talk to him one-on-one, as he is extremely helpful and makes you feel like your business matters. If you're planning engine mods later on, you may as well get your carb the way you want it the first time, rather than having to send it in again later. My two cents.
