SamH is correct, so is JDVan. I just wanted to say by chance if you HAD filled it to the top of the pipe it is WAY WAY over full. I would drain the oil and start over with fresh oil anyway if you are not sure when it was changed last. I use 10W-30 in my 630 here in Texas, and it holds about 11 quarts. The 60 should be about the same.

"old" & Sam you're both right. It won't be necessary to go through some high tech engineer's rigamaroll just to check the oil!

I can't say for sure I'm guessing but if its like my B, by the flywheel there is a bolt in a pipe sort of thing that you open to see if the oil level is right,,its right when oil starts to run out of it.

That's the way you do it all right. The checking plug is under the pulley on the 60. It is a hex shaped plug, about an inch long with a hex head plug screwed into it. Park the tractor on a level place and back the plug out a couple of turns. If oil runs out the hole in the bottom, everything's fine. If not pour oil in until it runs out.

SamH:

Your response is correct for a factory configured 60. However, there was an aftermarket add-on that was sold that allowed one to use a dipstick on the 60 to check the oil. I have two 60's here, with one of each type. Just in case that shows up in this thread.
