Is there a least difficult way to remove a right connecting rod cap bottom bolt's cotter pin? Vise grip?

David, This may seem pretty trivial but you ask! You need to turn flywheel where you can get best access to the rod bolt. If the cotter pin is wrapped tight against rod nut then use screw driver or small chisel to bend away from nut. Then take your pliers or vise grip to bend the two pieces together and simply pull out. If that fails then take a good side cutter plier and cut off the two bent legs and pull out. If you do this remember to fish out the pieces you cut off.

Larry,

If that cotter pin is stubborn to get out I've had good luck going ahead and getting the two "Legs" straightend out and bent toghether as well as possible and then got ahold of the head of the cotter pin with a pair of side cutters "Just enough pressure to kinda bite into the head of the pin, not too much or you'll cut it" Then tap the bottom side of the side cutters with a small hammer. This has pulled a many stubborn cotter pins for me. Like I say just be careful or you cut the whold head off the pin and sometimes it flares it where you can't go either direction with it.
If the head does get cut I've even had to use a real small punch to help knock the pin out.
