how long can a tractor sit before the cylinders start to rust. My grandpas G has been sitting not run in a little over 2 years now. the problem is that its at my aunt and uncles place ad they want it to stay so my cousin can sit on it and use it as a toy even though they have their own Ih M. they dont want it to leave but its just stiing and by the time i could get out there and get it it will probly cost alot to get it goin again. I wouldnt do a full restoration but i would keep the thing running. the times i have been thee theres been a can on the exhaust but it still gets really humid in the summertime in central mn? so sould i be getting ready for alot of work when i get it out to my place?

Well, I would sure pull the plugs and get some oil squirted in the cyl's! Don't need to turn it over every week or two but once a month would be good. If you can turn the flywheel with the plugs out and some oil in there she should stay free.

On second thought, your cousin will probably be very grateful 10 or 15 years from now if you do keep the tractor usable. Of course, then he won't get valuable experience in restoring a tractor-shaped piece of rust. How old is he?

Like Idiot said, try to run it once in a while. If you can't, put oil in the cylinders (spark plug hole, engine oil) and crank it over a few times every so often.

That's a shame that the tractor has to sit like that... but I agree, put some oil in those cylinders and crank it. Keep that thing free!

If it can run now maybe you could drive it a few yard and then park it where it was every couple weeks or something?
