Help with dismountable rim

I just got my first flat tire on my late model B. I have "weighted cast wheels with dismountable rims", which to me means I should be able to take the rims and the tire off without disturbing the wheel. The problems is that as I look at this, I can see that by removing the rim clamp the rim will want to come off, but it seems like it will only want to come off on the inside of the wheel (in other words, the wrong way). It seems as though there are several "bumpers" around the outside of the wheel that will not allow me to take the rim off even with the clamps removed. What am I missing here? (These "bumpers" are spaced evenly around the wheel and I suspect are there to center the rim on the wheel.)
Any help will be appreciated because I'll be working on this tomorrow, can't stand to see the old gal lame.
Thanks,
Gary

we have done it many times. you want to have the rim still on the tractor an have the side jacked up. take the lugs off then tip the bottom out ant then lower the jack an the cast center should come out quite easliy. an just reverse when putting it back on

Yes it will come off with the cast center on the tractor, look at clooney's picture to get the general idea, where ever did he find that picture? I run into lots of people even JD people who don't know this can be done. Also some extra trivia you can borrow ? your neibors rims and tires off his FARMALLS they interchange if of the same size IE 38"

Hi Gary if you plan on doing the tire yourself leave it on the tractor lot easier to do. If not remove all of the lugs and place the spot which holds the rim in place on the rim at about 2 o'clock pos and push tire and rim inward at the bottom and walk it back and forth pulling out on top

Gary, there should be a cut-out notch in the wheel that will allow the rim raised center to go into that cut-out & the rim will come over & off the other side. [kind of like those trick rings you played with as a kid]
~I have done those myself by leaving the rim with tire on the ground & kind of rolling the center around while leaning the rim [it's a bugger by yourself, & can sort of be un-safe]
~If the valve stem is facing out, why not just pull the tire off the rim while bolted to the tractor? That is the preferred way I do it when possible & re-mounting is a piece of cake with the rim upright.....

Clooney,
I think I got the idea..there is a way to rotate the rim around the wheel so that it will slide over the wheel. I am not equipped to remove the tire from the rim while it is on the tractor, my intent is to take the rim and the tire to a local tire dealer and have him change the tire. I tried to remove the tire from my front wheel using a tire iron and some other rudimentary tools, but almost bent my rim. I believe there is a special tool needed to do this. (Maybe not with rear tires?) Anyhow, I would be afraid of pinching my new tube, so at least for this go around I'll let the tire guy do it. Just out of curiosity (and I have a feeling that when I get the answer I will realise this is a stupid question), but what difference does it make if the valve stem is facing inside or outside, and why wouldn't you always want to have the valve stem on the outside? One thing I am starting to consider is that it might be a good idea to see if I could find someone to give me a hand with this project, even though I don't have to deal with the wheel. I just want to make sure I understand this key point though, it IS possible to leave the wheel on the tractor and remove the rim and tire, correct?
Thanks once more for your help my friend, (and for yours too Randy!. Thanks to you both my tractors are running very well.

Gary, there are many reasons a valve stem can end up pointing in, from turning the wheels around for off set reasons, to pointing the valve stem in for protection, to pointing the valve stem in for clearance to add air if equipment or duals are used that block the outside of the tire.
~To answer your question, "yes" the rim will come off over the wheel, you have get the raised center of the rim into the cut-away in the wheel, then work the rim over the wheel [it will just clear]..... ..
