I have a steady drip, close to a stream of oil leak after shreading. 69' syncro. It leaks out of the bottom dust cover below the clutch. Any idea what it might be?
How would a loader work on the 4020 considering some hydraulics are lost when you hold the clutch in. What fix is there?

Sounds to me like you may have a piston letting oil by. There is 2 small hyd pistons that engage your pto.Does it only leak when the pto is engaged? If so the reason for it to start leaking is that it has an oring and a back up ring around the pistons that may have deteriated. If you have a leak when the pto is not engaged its either the transmission seal or the rear engine seal. If the oil is dark or black then its engine seal. If clear oil its trans seal. far as the loader alot of 4020s have the same problem with running out of oil when clutch is held in too long. Reason for it is the charge pump runs off the top trans shaft and when clutch is depressed the top shaft stops and so does the pump. You have a supply tank up front that holds oil for reserve, when that runs out the hyds get chattery. You may have a valve hanging up on the left side of tractor in the valvebodybelow the battery. drain oil and take valve body off and check for stuck or scored valves. Hope this helps

Can you repair the PTO pistons without splitting the tractor?

You can replace the orings and back up rings with out splitting the tractor, but it is hard to do. I have done it a few times. You need to use a mirror to see what you are doing. Probably best to split the tractor to be sure to do it right. After the tractor is repaired and back working be sure to put pto in gear while engine is running Take a flashlight and look up where the bottom cover is(after cover is removed) DONOT PUT HANDS IN THERE! But look to see if the throw out bearing yoke is not shaking too much. If so your pto clutch adjustment is not correct and causing the yoke to vibrate the pistons. If running smooth then leave alone. Write back if you need more info
