Did John Deere make any D's with padded seats like the late-styled B,A,and G? Today I bought a 1950 D with hydraulics and on top of them there are 4 bolt holes that are about the same spacing as the battery box holes on a late-styled B. I was thinking I saw a D with a padded seat one time but I wasn't for sure. Also, How much is it worth? It has hydraulics, PTO, good tires, good fenders and hood, the grill needs work, Electric start, It runs good except it has to be pulled because the battery is low. I stole the tractor for $1250 here in Southwest Iowa, D's are pretty rare around here. How much is it worth now and when I get it restored?
Thanks,
Ryan

My next question is, how do I hook up the hydraulic pump? The side that goes into the tractor has a round piece that sticks out with a groove in it that hooks into the tractor. I must need another piece to go on there instead of the magneto drive flanges. Also, The drives flanges on the other side of the pump are for a short lug magneto so I need to find a short lug. Where do I find these pieces and how much would I expect to pay? The pump and valves are off of an AR because the casting numbers on everything starts with A instead of D.
Thanks,
Ryan

I too purchased a 47 D with the industrial type seat. I don't know if these were "standard" equipment or an option installed at the dealership but my 1959 parts manual lists them as an "Industrial Type Seat" P/Ns AD1298R (frame) AD1299R (Cushion)

No ag D's were fitted with the bench seat factory installed as you discribe. Reason, Deere as early as the 1947 knew the D was to be replaced by their first diesel tractor, the model R and probably didn't want to make any costly design changes that late in the D's production life. As Ralph pointed out, even the hydraulic installation was a add on.

I thought that they kept making Ds right up to 53 when they switched over to numbers? Of course, if that's so they might not have planned numbers in 47.

Yes, they did make Ds until 1953, but as the prior post said, they knew the R would replace the D and they didn't want to spend a lot of money on design changes on the D.

Farmers still wanted the D, even after the R came out, and production was extended further than originally planned, I think. The "Streeter" Ds are a case in point - after production of the D was officially stopped and the tooling was removed from the plant, they had to gear up and build the last several in an alley behind the plant.

Live hydralic was retrofitted to some D's using the styled AR control box and hence the seat mounting. My D has a padded seat similar to what I have seen pictured on DI's. Also a spring support with a hydralic damper. My dad's '46 A came with a similar seat mounted on the conventional spring support.
