Model L -- Good find or Keep looking?

I may be able to get my grandfather's old JD Model L tractor. My uncle has it and anther one, and I may be able to get one of them to restore.

One is JD Green. The other is yellow with truck tires on it (road construction use?).

Is a Model L easy to find parts and to restore? Is it worth it? Or should I trade it for a model A or B?

We have a small dairy farm, but we have newer tractors for that. I'd like to restore an old JD for parade and show use mainly. I live near Dacusville, home of the Farm Days and tractor meets in Upstate SC.

I work on my own cars, trucks, and diesel trucks on the side. This is the first JD that I've had a chance to get.

thanks

Driving a tractor with family history is always fun, I can vouch for that. I'd go for it!

I don't think the L series is too hard to get parts. And there is at least one place that specializes in them.

The yellow tractor is likely to be an "industrial" version, and these are more valuable, because of lower production numbers. You can learn more about them at my website below.

Good luck,
Brandon

That's a great website! Thanks for the info!
Nothing is officially "for sale". My cousin has all of the tractors from a strange inheritance situation. I just hope that he'll do the right thing and let me take what was from my side of the family.

Wish me luck.

I am about to post another message about a JOHN DEERE tool set. 106 pieces (sockets, impacts, combination wrenches...). Another interesting find. Don't know what it's worth.

Get grandaddys!!!!! !!!!! !!. I just spent a bundle to get grandaddy's tractor this past Saturday. I now have tractors from both of my grandfathers. One a 40T and the other a 40C. I have a number of L series and they are not that difficult to get parts for and restore.

If you can get your Grandfather's tractor by all means get it. Mine had an LA which went to a cousin who long ago sold it. Not only is an L a great little show/parade tractor they have become quite a collectors item. Their compact size and light weight make them easy to store and haul. Good luck, if you don't wnat it let me know.

I wish that I were in a more authoratative position over them, but they were actually inherited by a cousin of mine all at once. It is a strange situation. I just hope that he'll let me have what was from my side of the family. I'll be lucky to get one of them, much less all 3 that I believe are my family's.

I'll take the yellow one if it's for sale!
Thanks, Paul
