I have recently purchased a 66 4020D, have not put it to work yet, but after driving it a little I see two spots where a small amount of oil has come from the head gasket on the right side. My concern is having to rebuild the top end. Do you experienced guys find this a problem?

I would just watch it and be alert for coolant in the crankcase and oil in the radiator (which you need to do anyway). It may run for years without trouble.

thanks Guys, Will Always watch. Is the water jacket and oil pasages close enough to blow out the side of the gasket without affecting the cylinder?

I would just let it go, also. Eventually it will get worse or start leaking coolant, and you can take care of it then. It could last 10 hours or 1000, you never know. I just got done working on a 4840 that was leaking oil on the right side of the head gasket. Asked the customer about fixing it, and he said it had been that way for years - no big deal.

I have a 4450 with the same thing. I've asked around and most mechanics suggest not to fix it until it goes. Retorquing the head isn't a good idea either. My suggestion is to watch it if it gets worse. Good luck.
