Picked up a bearing for the first reduction gear/ overdrive shaft(outer bearing). my question is, when I push the new (one piece) bearing onto the shaft, after I put that big cover back on. How will I ever beable to remove it(the cover) again if that bearing is pressed on the overdrive shaft. I can't imagine prying off that cover and overcoming the pressed fit of that bearing.
Thanks,Steve

STEVE, I take it that you are talking about the brg in the first reduction cover. Have you taken it apart yet? If not there is a cover over the brg. take it off .Take cotter key out remove nut on shaft. Take belt pulley off remove first reduction cover.Reverse operation to install.Earl

Yes I have it apart. putting it back together isn't an issue. My concern is how do you get it apart after it's all back together. You tighten that nut down on the shaft to push the bearing up to the first reduction gear after the reduction cover is on and in place. But once that bearing is tight on that shaft, if you want to take it apart some other time, you have have to pry on the reduction cover to pull it back off the shaft. The cover won't pull off of the outside of the bearing because it has those big circlips inside and outside the cover. My question is would it make sense to leave the inside circlip off so when you pull the reduction cover off. The cover slips off over the outer race, which isn't near as tight as the inner race on the gear shaft, and then use a gear puller to pull the bearing off the shaft after the cover is off. When I pulled it apart, the bearing was toast and very little prying on the cover and it popped off.Inner race still on the shaft, outer race still in reduction cover.Ball bearings on floor. I assumued I would have got a 3 piece bearing from Deere, like on the side of the governor. When you take the side cover off the gov,the outer race stays in the cover, you have to catch the ring of ball bearings and the inner race is PRESSED onto the governor shaft right next to the gear. Can you make heads or tails out of my issue?
Thanks Steve

Steve, the next time you replace the bearing you remove the nut and take a soft hammer and drive the shaft in ,this will remove the bearing from the shaft. Don
