I have a 60 with power steering. Ive rebuilt the pump with new shaft and seals. put new aluminum washers on the suction tube. Then found my vent cap wasnt venting. Someone had scraped on it. so i took a small bit and drilled a tiny hole in it. now i have some fluid coming out this hole its not foaming i think its to much vent. Thanks

Chris, I don't think it is too much vent. I have pulled that bronze pellet completely out & not had the fluid come out. ~I have had a few in the past that I couldn't get clean [usually because someone had scraped on it] ~I did one about 6 months ago & decided to try something different & so far it seems to be working good. I punched that pellet out & then carefully broke the v shaped center out of an old bronze G.M. fuel filter, then used J.B. weld to glue the v shaped bronze filter piece into the center of the Deere power steering cap. I figured any oil that splashed onto the bronze would drip back into the reservoir & not blow out. So far I don't have any sign of fluid leaking out.
~With that hole you drilled any oil that splashes into the hole might get pushed out if there is a little positive pressure in the reservoir, or you are using the wrong type fluid & it is foaming inside.
~Try running with the pellet completely out & see if that helps, if so try the G.M. filter. If it doesn't work you can braze the hole up & re-drill a small hole.

Hi You'll I have a 1954 JD 60, wide square tube front, live power and nice old 60, I need to know how hard is it to put power steering back on the tractor? It also at sometime was a LP model, someone got gas tank hood carb etc. I didn't know it had been until I checked #s on it. My big ? is can anybody tell me if a JD #36 loader will fit this tractor without major surgery? I had heard a JD #48 loader was correct, but where do you even find one? The #36 came off a 2010 about the size of a model 60. Can anyone guide me in right direction about finding what fits what?? Thank You All Very Much!!! Wayne

Wayne, it is not a terrible job to put power steering on your tractor (I am assuming you are talking factory PS). I have a setup off of a 60 that has all of the parts necessary except a radiator top tank but if your tractor had PS at one time you will already have the top tank you need (for valve clearance). You would need the front pedestal and steering valve, pump, steering shaft and fan shaft. I have all these parts plus the governor (to keep the governor gears mated) and will sell them complete. Email me for more information. These parts were on a running tractor and I know they worked then. Mike
