.....looks like I'm going to have to get a taper-lock flywheel.....that knocking is giving me a headache.....yesterday at a tractor show a guy told me don't mess with Dengler, he's too high...there's a guy down in Tennessee that makes them for $500 (exchange) and Dengler and Polk just buy from him anyway and add on $300 mark-up!....I asked how do I find this guy in Tennessee?....he said he's in Johnstown, Tn.....I ran a quick internet check and couldn't find anything for Johnstown, TN....there is a Johnson City however but I hit a dry hole when I searched for tractor parts....anybody ever hear of this?..... thanks for advice or info.....BTW when I finally get my hands on a taper-lock flywheel, I think I'm just going to let my JD dealer do the installation...all I got to work with is a dirt floor barn, a drop light and a set of Craftsman wrenches.....flywheel removal and installation sounds like it will take more than that....am I right?
....I'm new to this board and like it very much...
Good luck to all,
Bo, 730-Ds forever!

Bo....Glad to help. I have a couple of 2 cylinders diesels with taper locks and I've talked to Chester on several occasions. He sent me a copy of the proper installation instructions that were very helpful. If you do it yourself, buy a 36" pipe wrench to be able to turn the 4 inch square nut that holds the flywheel on the crankshaft. Do not pound on the square nut, but rather use it to "cinch-up" the flywheel after you drive the flywheel further onto the hub.Good luck!

I have used these flywheels. The man I know is Chester Allen I don't have his phone number handy. You will need a sledge hammer bigger is better and a 3 or 4 foot pipe wrench to tighten the nut.
