I have tried everything by now. I have finally done a compression test and it came out at 135 on both cylinders. I am still having a backfire/pop back through the carb at idle. When I give it half choke it smooths right out and runs great.

Does this sound like a Carb problem and if so any recommendations on who to send it to?

Bill I have the same problem with the TSX 688 carb for my 420 T. I have rebuilt the carb twice and the same thing keeps showing up. I found that a passage behind the idle jet was stopped up. I opened it and the thing was more sensitive than before. I did not drill any metal out to inlarge the passage. I am begining to think that the removable jet might be the culpret. The idle jet is so close to being closed off, about 1 click from being closed off. That is where the 420 runs its best. A friends 320 I is the same way.

Spokerd Thanks for the input. Do you still get the backfire through the carb with the passage unblocked? Would you recommend opening up the passage? Also when you say on click what do you mean. I have mine running at 1 1/2 turns out.

Thanks again, Bill

Well A click is the wrong term. I would adjust the load needle first then the idle needle, if it lopes at an idle then screw in the idle stop screw until it stops serging at an idle. No my idle jet is closed off all the way and just cracked open. You might say it is on the set. And yes it still pops back at me to some degree. I have cleaned and ran drill bits through each passage, and opened the one on the idle curcuit. Still no luck. Do not drill any thing in the carb over size as you might kill the carb.
