I have found an original 430-W serial #140058, it has power steering, 5 speed, independent pto, dual touch lift, needs paint, and some repairs. The tractor has a problem in that it will not move the owner says he thinks the coupler that connects the clutch shaft to the transmission is stripped??? If any one has any thoughts please let me know. The asking price is $3,000.00 is this fair? Thanks in advance CNJ.

There is a round cover held on with three bolts just above the 540/1000 pto shaft for an industrial direct drive. It takes two minutes & causes no damage to inspect the transmission with a strong flashlight. Can you "feel gears" while shifting with the clutch engauged also the ring & pinion maybe the culprite.

That one is much better than the '58 420W that I looked at and the guy wanted $3500 for it. I would be very interested at that price. There is fact a splined coupler at at the transmission end of the shaft between the clutch and the transmission and I stripped one on my 40C once. It means splitting the tractor into three pieces to fix it if my memory is correct. The shaft and coupling were about $130 15 years ago. I have no idea what they are now. Long ago, you could get just the coupling, but I don't think you can still do that.

Well lets look at it this way. Offer him 4000 if he gets it running and completes the other repairs and leaves the paint rough. Bet that will make his eyes glaze over. Tried to approach that one with a little humor, but it is early this morning. As Mr Thinker once said, buy yourself as much tractor as you can afford. You are miles ahead with a 430 say maybe a little under 5000 that is in good running condition and looks good. Just my theory after going to the school of hard knocks for a while. Have Fun!
