I am looking at buying a 1970 3020 diesel synchro range, 1 remote, excellent sheetmetal. The engine has been rebuilt (all jd parts with papers) along with the main hydraulic pump(repair by jd). I test drove it today but noticed a problem with the brakes. The left pedal (from operators seat viewpoint) has excessive travel than the right pedal. Also when you turn the tractor sharply to the left and apply the left brake, the engine becomes loaded and the wheel groans a bit too noisily. When performing the opposite turn to the right, the braking is perfect with no load on the engine or excess noise or pedal travel. What is the problem and what is the cost to repair. This tractor also needs new rear tires( front tires have already been replaced new), possible new clutch(or just free travel adjustment), and the fuel pump may need a rebuild(mechanic is claiming that the new engine compression is making it hard to start).
Current asking price is $9700.00 but I have him down to $8900.00 cash What is a fair price?
What is the problem with the brake and how much could I negotiate off the price for the brakes, rear tires, etc.
I compared the above mentioned tractor to a 1969 3020 d, sync, 1 remote, 4000hours for $7500.00(judging by the wear on the drawbar A-frame and carriage, this tractor was rode hard and put away wet!). Also completely restored tractors can average $10-12,000 This is typical for priceing in GA Your thoughts, comments, or suggestions would be greatly apprecitated.

I paid 7700 for 3020d console. ok tires diff lock
good runner- from wisconsin. tires plan on spending $700.00 for rears $100.00 for fronts. a variety of things could be happening with brakes.
I never heard such a line about hard starting because of the rebuild, new ones don't start hard!
Pay a local JD mechanic fifty bucks to go look at over lunch or on weekend, he can give you a preety good evaluation. sometimes buyer emotions are the worst enemy.. that one could have been put away soaking wet!
