I am considering buying a 1959 John Deere 430 W. No power steering. Live pto, 5 speed, 3 point, real good tires, metal good. No noise in gears. Everything works well. Engine real good. What's it worth? Is a W worth more or less that a 430 S?
Thanks for your help.

Roger

Determining the (worth) between the two, would be: What do you want the tractor for? To collect or use? To some collectors the novelty of the S would make it more desireable, If you are going to use it, I would reccomend the W. It is heaver, more stable and can handle any 6 foot equipment. As to value, the range is wide, according to condition and who is buying. I would say anywhere from $1500 - rough to $10,000 - super nice with all the extras. I am restoring three 430's at the present and due to the condition they will be in, I will ask around $6500 for them or keep them.

Wayne, thanks very much for the input. I doesn't help me specifically determine the worth of the 430 I am looking at but it does put it in perspective. Your comments about usablilty are also very useful.
