6030 Sound Guard Cab

I read with great interest the postings regarding the 6030 and 4560 comparisons. A question came to mind as I read this: why did Deere stay with the old 20-series cab and sheet metal on the 6030? I also was wondering if it is possible to install a Sound Guard Body onto a 6030, as well as some newer 30 or 40 series sheet metal, hood and fuel tank. I would not want it to look home-built, but rather like a factory installed option. Any thoughts out there on this? Thanks! Merlin

A couple of years ago in "BEST OF FARM SHOW MAGAZINE". There was a fellow that put a soundgard cab from a burned up front end 2955, onto a classic 4020. Looked pretty good in the pictures.

I haven't ever read about why they didn't install a sound-gard on the 6030, but I would imagine that it was probably because sales weren't high enought to justify the expense. The 40 series tractors were probably already on the drawing boards when the 30 series came out, and they knew the 6030 would be replaced by the 4840, so it probably wasn't deemed necessary. As far as installing later tin work and cab, anything is possible with enough time and money, but I think it would require quite a bit of both. I think a 6030 hood is probably wider than even a 4840 hood, so a lot of modifications would need to be done. I have seen the sound-gard installed on earlier tractors with mixed results - some look good and nearly factory, and some have looked like a terrible tractor experiment gone wrong, lol.

Once took a 5020, and installed a Cummins 855 in it. He then used the hood from an 8850 and the soundgaurd cab unit from a 4440, and when he was done, he called his mess a "5050". It had 400hp.

I would think that you could take the same hood and cab and install them on a 6030 and make it work. It would certainly look pretty good if properly done. You'd have to call it a 6040 or something!

I apologise for mistakenly using his name. I had inadvertantly meant his name to be the title for the post and not the name of the poster. I'd just come from a differnt site with different rules, sorry.

I agree that the Kinzebaw tractor is a real piece of work! It certainly was built by someone who hates John Deere with a passion.

Are other brands of tractors "butchered" like that or is this sort of thing "unique" to John Deere? For example, has anyone ever shoehorned a monstousity like the 855 Cummins into say a 1466? Or a D21?
