I've been trying to get an hour meter pressure switch, part AR720R for a JD R. Haven't had any luck. I figure I could get something from an auto supply but I don't know the specs. I am assuming I would need a normally open switch that requires little pressure to close. Does anyone have specs for this switch?? Thank you.

Another way to do it (courtesy Bob M over on the Farmall board) is to power the hour meter from the armature side of the generator. The armature terminal is only hot when the engine is running. That's what I did on my MD. Brian

Walt, I don't have any specs on the original switch, but anything that closes at 3-5 psi should work. Most single terminal OPS switches close to ground with no oil pressure & open with the presence of oil pressure [backwards of what you need] ~General Motors used a 2 terminal oil pressure switch in the early 1980's that was used for redundant fuel pump control & closed with oil pressure. The later vehicles used basically the same thing, only it had 3 terminals & combined the fuel pump by-pass with the oil pressure light switch. The early 2 terminal OPS had 2 terminals that connected together with the presence of oil pressure. You would need to hook one of the terminals to the hour meter & the other to ground.
~Ask your local auto parts store if they have a 2 terminal [electric fuel pump] oil pressure switch for early 1980s TBI equipped G.M. car. The early 80s used 1/8 pipe thread, some of the later used a metric thread...
