Can you fit heater/glow plugs to a 6030 for cold weather starts ? Can't use oil pan / block heater as there is no power supply. Just don't like usin ether. Thanks in advance.

Don't know if this will be feasible but I've heard of construction companies having quick couplers on the heater hoses of their trucks then coupling the hoses to the machines engine and letting the trucks engine coolant warm the cold engine. chris

3000w generators go cheap now days. Two 1200W tank heaters, an oil pan heater, battery warming blankets and a battry charger booster. Should start in less than 1hr at 0F even when open to the wind. For overnight just a frost plug block heater, battery blanket and trickle charger will do. Chain and lock the generator so the exhaust is warming the oil pan. A little long run 1500W generator will do. Plus you will have a generator the next time a power outage occurs.

There are intake heater kits available for some of the later Deeres, such as the 4580 and such. One could POSSIBLY be retrofitted to a 6030, but it would take some work.

Did you finally get that thing home Chris? We used a block heater on our 6030 and it worked well, too bad you can't. The ether will work ok if used sparingly. Another trick to starting that 6030 is to make sure your shutoff linkage cable and that spring on the aneroid valve on the pump is adjusted properly. If it isn't then just push in that rod on side of pump by spring before trying to start it and you find it usually starts right up.

If you don't have power, you are pretty much stuck with ether assist. If you don't have the electric assist, switch it out for an electric assist unit off of a 4430,later 6030 or newer model Deere. They supply a measured shot by hitting the pushbutton. Alot easier to use than trying to hold a can and crank at the same time,or spraying in the breather and then cranking. Ether won't hurt the engine if used properly.

No place for glow plugs and JD doesn't use the pre combustion chamber(except on old 2010 and 1010). You should be able to put in block heater. I used to put a lot on 4020 and 3020 and I would assume the engines are similar though the 6030 is much larger. The 4020 had pipe plugs with allen type deptessions on the right side of the block, you had to heat tehm usually to get them out. Either should not hurt if used correctly and sparingly. I have seen soem with holes blown in air filter from using too much. Block heater will warm it and causes less wear on cold starts.
