We have two open-station w/rops 6030s, one (on 18.4 x 38s, turned up) which would pull in fourth gear what our 8630 (on 18.4 x 38s) would pull in B2-C2....just about a 1mph advantage to the 8630! The traction advantage was about the only difference in the abilities of those two tractors. We would pull an 11-shank Barrentine V-ripper in heavy red clay soil with the 8630 and a 9-shank with the 6030. The 6030 would pull so hard that one day while ripping with the 6030, I broke the quick hitch in half! There was a slight fracture where the break occurred but the majority of the break was fresh. The only knock I have on our 6030s is that they are hot and loud! Im sure the 4560 is much more comfortable!

It often makes me wonder why farmers dont buy older iron to work with. The 6030 we use still runs like a champ and we spent less than half of the money buying and fixing it up than a 4560 would cost. So in my opinion, if it's old, green and useable, you just cant beat it. The 4960, 4560, theit just too new and too expensive.

WE OWN BOTH MODELS AND JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED THE 6030 AND WAS WONDERING WHICH WAS STRONGER. THE 4560 WE HAVE IS TWO WHEEL DRIVE AND CAN OUT PULL A FOUR WHEEL DRIVE TRACTOR WE HAVE ABOUT THE SAME SIZE

You've got a good point, and if the older tractors still work well, by all means keep using them. However, the 60 series tractors aren't all that new anymore. There are several around here with up to 7000 hours on them, so they're getting up there too. Actually about the cheapest and best horsepower a guy can buy in this area right now is a 4840 - I've seen lots of them listed for under $20,000 - good deal for 200 hp and a powershift.

That really depends on what you're talking about. Creature comforts, convenience and manueverability were already mentioned, so let's discuss something else. Hitch capacity, the 4560 will probably lift everything the 6030 will - particularly if it has lift assist cylinders. Hydraulic system capacity - advantage 4560. My grandpa and uncle own an 8450 and a 4560 with no MFWD - neither tractor is turned up. The 4560 will pull everything the 8450 will and at the same speed - probably a little faster as it has radar and the 8450 doesn't, so you're not reading slippage. I know an 8450 will pull with a stock 6030, so go from there on that one. I also have a friend that farmed with three 6030s at one point - he still has two. His comment was that they would pull with a 4850 MFWD all day, but they were also turned up some and burned a lot more fuel to do it. A sizeable portion of the 6030's horsepower goes just into turning the massive transmission, differential and final drives - not to mention pulling it's own weight through the field. 4560s are also not intercooled, and no, they probably wouldn't live long at 235 hp - at least not on a constant full-load situation. A 4960, however, will live at 235 hp and would walk away from a 6030. 6030s were and still are awesome tractors, and there are a lot of them still working, but technology basically passed them by and when the 4840 came out, that was the end of it. I would take the 4560 any day, although the 6030s are sweet. Just my two cents.

Like other have posted what do U want to do... If you want cheap HP.. the 6030 is the ticket, but the 4560 or 4960 is a more.. hmm.. user friendly.. lol.. If U want a pulling tractor, take the 6030, put in a 619cid.. some pump, injector work and a charger or two.. and hold on, but no shifting gears.. it has a synco-find trany.. (I sure hated working on those things.. big, powerfull and a PITA to work on..

I'm not so sure about the 175 rated of the 6030's.. I wonder if that was for the non-turboed version.. I've never seen one under 200hp..

Day in and out in the field.. I'll take the 4560.. or better yet a 4960.. (I have seen a few rods hanging out the sides of them..) JDGnut

You are exactly right on the pulling side of the equation, JDGnut, although taking a 4560 and converting it to open station with a narrow front would be an interesting little project, lol. Slap in an 8.1 Powertech and get 'er done! But seriously, one of the biggest disappointments I've ever had at a pull was not getting to see a pretty wild 6030 on the track. It had no cab and a narrow front - along with a windshield washer reservoir under the platform with a nice little hose running up to a fitting right in front of the cold side of the turbo. Must have been some kind of cold-start system, lol. The pull got rained out before he ran, and he wasn't there the next day when they finished it up. Man I wanted to see that tractor run. I'd love to have a big, greasy 6030 someday, but I'm not sure my budget can stretch that far. Ah, what the heck - labor's at least free when you're a JD tech. Right?

Only problem with converting the 60series into pullers is that they are heavy.. they usually use an earilier chassis.. (or a component type chassis) IT depends on what level they want to go too.. Need a 8.1 PT with a comman rail, and a computer engineer nerd.. I have seen the 8.1 stock easily go over 400hp... and that was at a low RPM.. lol.. No tell what it would be at 2400rpms.. or 5-6000rpms.. haha.. JDGnut

But Gnut, if I used a component chassis, I wouldn't be able to pull it in the farm stock classes, lmao.

6030, NO QUESTION about it!

The 4560 was a 155 (factory)pto hp tractor.

The 6030 was supposedly a 175 hp tractor.

The 6030 USUALLY had over 235hp. I doubt that the 4560 could (reliably) do that well.

The 4560 is undoubtedly more manueverable and has more and better convenience features. I would have thought you'd have specified a 4960 instead of the 4560 but whatever---a 6030 MIGHT outwork one of those also!
