I have a 1951 John Deere A. The small Ball Bearing that is moved by the counterweights in the center of the gear assembly is bad. How do you get the gears off? Do I press the cam shaft gear off? How do you get the fan drive gear off? What does the big spring between the distributor drive and the fan gear do? Thanks For your Help.

Haywood, you have to be really carefull not to break the gear that runs on the cam gear, need to make sure you are pushing on the part of the gear closest to the shaft, if you push on the gear it will break. The spring on the distributer end is used to put pressure on the outer race of the bearing on that end. If you need pictures of what I built and what all looks like please email me. Johnny

check parts and availibilty first. On my G some of the parts were not availible, the ones that were cost in excess of 300$ plus still needed some machine shop work to boot. I bought a used governor assembly from wengers for 125$ bolted it on and was back in buisness

Got out there and fiddled with it and got the balls loose in the bearing. Think this willtake care of that problem. Now I have torn down the distributor and it is a rusted hunk of junk. Where is this wengers. I need a distributor.
