I am a Farmall/Case guy, so I quite un-educated about the Green machines.

My brother has a JD50 that the throttle won't stay at high speed unless you hold it. If not it will slip back to idle. What is the easy fix for this?

Thanks

- Dave

Like the others posted - you can make them (part #10 in Frank's post below) out of leather. I had been using a rubber tarp strap on my 50 to hold it wide open which was a real pain hooking and unhooking it all of the time. I used an old pair of leather high top work boots and cut them with a utility knife. Now it works smooth as silk and stays where I put it.

I had the same problem with my 50 when I got it. I don't know if you can get the little friction washers, they are very thin and look like they're made out of the same material as brake lining.

On mine, I cut the leather palms out of a couple of old leather gloves and use it. That's been almost 3 yrs ago and it's still working great. You'll probably want to replace the bolt and spring holding the whole mess together, mine was pretty rusted out.

Besides, it gave me an excuse to get myself a new pair of work gloves!

Dave_D:

What you probably need is to tighten the spring behind the throttle lever, or replace the 2- friction disks (# 10). I'm not sure if they're still available, but if not, some folks use two disks made from leather or brass sheet stock.

It's not a dumb question.....that 's a problem that has plagued all the side mount throttles at least once !

That was one of those problems that Dad didn't exactly jump right on to fix. I don't remember doing it too much on a 50, but I can still see myself reclined in the seat of a 620 or 730 with my right foot holding the throttle wide open. HJ
