then with all the other hazards on the road like deer crossing the bevears that dropped a tree acrossed the road over night the cow thats out and standing in the road then worrie about getting pulled over by the law cause don't have seat belt on or headlights on in the rain with all the real problems in the world think the law could be more usefull taking care of the real problems instead of writing tickets for no seat belt or headlights not on in the rain !!!!! !!!!! !!

Hey Alvy, not using headlights in the rain IS a real problem. There are 2 sides of road safety: things that affect YOU and things that can affect OTHERS. Seatbelt use should be a personal choice, but headlights in rain aren't just so little Alvy can see, THEY ALSO ALLOW OTHERS TO SEE YOU!! In Ohio at least there are new laws for farm machinery to have yellow lights the width of the machine now? Its so other vehicles can see them not so the tractor driver can see. And why do you think automakers put those DRLs on cars? When others on the road can see you easier, accidents are prevented.

I think most people could see just fine even in the rain if they'd consentrate on driving more and talking less? On their cel phones that is? And there's already far too many damned law's to live by from everything from having to wear helmets to ride a bike to no smoking in public places, and the like. We need to take a lessen from countries like Mexico where if you'd mention something as unimportant as a drivers licence to the average guy down there they'd look at you as though you were nuts. Your all growen up and should hardly need to have the government babysit you 24/7 is what he'd think! And it's kind of embarasing to know how helpless us adult growen men of North America have become? There's even laws for what we think these day's, and I think I've about had enough of this ridiculousness myself? Perhaps Mexico might not be so bad afterall?

Often wondered who the crazy people driving on roads without lights during a heavey rain storm, guess i got it figured out now. People that don't give a d** about anybody else on the road and drive 20 mph over posted speed cause they got a big picken up.

I'm curious as all get out what state requires headlights on in the rain, sounds like a ticket is overkill, ought to be a warning type offense. John in lovely free Nebraska

I have problem with the game...deer is causing untold property damage and the other day loose of life. Deer came through windshield onto driver. The problem I have is that legislation has forced the seatbelt law...I wore mine before legislation....however they legalized 4 wheelers on the roads and legalized the none use of helmets for motorcyclist. The game deere and turkey was brought into our state (Kentucky) by behind the scenes non elected people and even without a vote in the time when our state is getting more populated. I understand the same people have introduced elk, rattlesnake. I question where our democracy has gone. I used to small game hunt(squirrel) however you can enter the woods without being covered up with deer tick. Personally I wish we had a democracy where the public could vote on these issues.

Thanks to G.M. for all the stupid lights on during the day. Nuthin like having your retinas
nuked at 2 p.m. in the afternoon. Then again they always were the first to start such foolish ideas. It takes away your right to choose, unless
you dont mind applying the e-brake slightly to shut them off(nice touch after you spend 25000 for a vehicle). The Chrysler Corparation hasnt jumped on that D.R.L. bandwagon, wanna know why?
Because its STUPID! P.S. G.M. vehicles DO use the high beams for daylight operation....nice.

You are obviously not as safetly conscious or as intelligent as the folks at GM. You probably don't wear a seatbelt, Don't wear safety glasses, Paint without a respirator and drink and drive also.

How about the genius that past me today on 4" of snow on an untreated road. He must have been doing 45 mph. But I guess I am not as smart as him since he had 4WD. Where were they this morning, this guy should have been pulled over and had his license shredded on the spot.

And then there was the 27 year-old female jogger that had a tree fall on her down here in Florida last week.

Sort of puts the rest to shame, doesn't it?

Did you know that it is ilegal; Against the law; for a patrol to put anything in an axident report in where a person was killed by a seat belt and observed by the officer that the belt was the cause of death. This happened to my cousin. All those safty reports favoring seat belts are falsified by the non reporting of any inguries or death caused by the belts because it is against the law. THOSE SEAT BELT LAWS ARE UN CONSTITUTIONAL IN TRYING TO MAKE YOU DO SOMETHING THAT IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH, the should be fought and thrown out, the goverment just gets a kickback from every one installed is that they require them, not safty

What a load of crap!! You wouldn't want to cite any law in any state that backs up what you just said, would you? Additionally, I've read the Constitution a bunch of times and nowhere in it are seatbelts mentioned.

That headlights on in the rain makes it safer is a falshood, many times I have in the daylight hours have been blinded by the oncoming headlights of a car, now if that car would not have had the lights on then I could have seen it so whitch is safer, if you can see the car or be blinded by lights and have to slam on the brakes and try to stop while the car gets past you without you hitting anything because you can't see? If headlight are on in the rain then they should be on a half power setting like a car I used to have.

If oncomming headlights blind you in the daytime. How is your vision affected at night by oncomming head lights?

I'd bet that neither of you folks have ever had to knock on a door at 3 a.m., to explain to hysterical parents that Bobby or Suzie is not coming home. You think that's easier than stopping "real crime"? Hysterical wives are no easier.

Law enforcement has found out this is a cash cow for them and their jurisdictions. Not much paperwork, most people just pay the tickets. Besides giving out seatbelt tickets is alot easier than stopping real crime.
