I use John Deere classic green paint that I get from my local dealer. I have been using Napa reducer and hardner (15118). I cannot see anywhre on the paint can what kind of paint it is.. I have been assuming it was synthetic enamel. Is this correct? Also, what is the mixing ratios. I was told by the local Napa guy this morning that the hardner was 1 pint to a gallon of paint.. Does this sound right? Any suggestions really appriciated.

Clyde, Yes the Classic from Deere will be synthetic enamel. An 8 to 1 ratio is common or 3 to 4 capfuls per quart of paint and reducer. One pint of the hardner should do the whole job, yellow and green.

Clyde,

I've been painting my JDs without any reducer. If you set your gallon paint can out on a hot day in the sun for about 5 hours on some piece of tin to get the paint can warm, you can spray without thinner or reducer and get a lot shinier finish. The hot sun will make the paint flow through your paint gun without clogging it up. Also, using any reducer or thinner will dull the finish. But definitely still use the hardener, this also helps produce a good finish as well as helps on drying faster. The ratio I use with the JD classic green and hardener I purchased from carquest, is 4 parts paint to 1 part hardener.
