I don't think a 3020 gas will keep up to a 730D on a plow or any other heavy work that uses a lot of torque . We had a 730D , they were a pretty good old horse , couple people I know also had 730D's and traded them for 3030D's later , they said there wasn't much difference between the two but the 3020D's are stronger than the gassers aren't they ? 3020 is much nicer to run , handier etc but I'd almost bet a gas won't do what a good 730D will do on a plow .

Nix on the "more torque" from a 3020 gas... Given that they both have a fairly "fresh" engine, I'll take a 730D any day. The old two lunger will out torque (lug) that gas tractor when on a heavy load. And it will use substantially less fuel doing it! The 3020 has it all over the 730 for creature comforts though...

i think the 730d has no chance agenst a 3020gas.

the 730 mite be a desal BUT the 3020 has more torque

Are we talking stock (as shipped from factory) with no enhancements to either tractor?

Are we talking the same tire size on each tractor? What speed do you intend to pull the implements with?

The 730D is 58HP, and I thought (but can't recall) that the 3020 gas was more than that (3020 was 65 if I recall correctly). The 730D is about 7000#'s dry shipping weight. I believe the 3020 was similar in weight.

The 730D is going to be a better lugger even if it wasn't a diesel.

If all you are going to do is use it for tillage, then 730D will be the more economical choice. However, if you are going to use hydraulics a lot (such as a loader), then 3020 is much better choice.

730D is also known for fuel in the crankcase. My dad had 3 730D during his time farming and every one of them had to be fixed for fuel in the crankcase.

Also, before you consider my reply or other's replies about how much their tractor could pull, make sure you find out the size of the plow (number of bottoms, and size of bottom), how deep they were pulling, and the soil type they were pulling in. I've seen some pretty outrageous comments on this and other tractor BBs only to find out they were pulling 14" bottoms and only drawing 4"-6" in sandy type soil. Try farming red clay hills with no rain with 3 16s (pulled by 730D). A semi-mount plow on alfalfa ground will just scrape the surface (we always had to plow after a rain). When we did get the plow into the ground, it was pretty hard going. We tried to draw 8" - 10"...wasn't always easy. My dad did try 4 16s, but could pull fast enough to get the plow to scour correctly. This was with another 1000#s of weight on the tractor.

Someday sharp fully optioned 3020 gassers will be worth as much or more than common old 730 diesels to collectors.

and EVERYDAY. The 730D will out pull it, and will use but a fraction of the fuel cost to do it. The 3020 has stronger hydraulics (2250psi) and is easier to back, and has more gears, but for heavy work---plowing and discing for example, it'l make the 3020 look weak.

You would like the 3020 better for things like pulling a haybaler, a moco, or loader work. The 4 cylinder engine is smoother for pto work.
