I JUST BOUGHT A 1963 JD 3010 AND IT RUNS LIKE A TOP BUT IT MISSES AT HIGH IDLE. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY ALL DO THIS. I ASKED THE GUY I BOUGHT IT FROM; HE SAID IT HAS BEEN DOING IT EVER SINCE HE BOUGHT IT. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA ON HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. THANKS.

I have a 4020 that has recently started doing that. Suspect is a deteriorated rubber ring in the injector pump. Don't know about the 4-cyl pumps, but 6-cyl Stanadynes run around $695 w/o exchange for a rebuilt one. If you don't need the tractor, the old pump can be taken off and rebuilt for less.

Check the injection pump to see if it has the automatic advance on it. It is a housing mounted on the side of the injection pump facing the front of the tractor. It should have an allen head adjusting screw on it. Many of the original 3010 tractors had an injection pump without the automatic advance on it. On the pumps with auto advance the timing is set to TDC on #1. The pumps without auto advance are set to 10 degrees before TDC. Check the timing of your pump to see if it is correct.

I bought my '62 3010D from my grandfather. It too missed at high idle (and at low idle). The injectors were dirty (tractor was not used enough...sat too much) and were also worn to the point that they would crack at 2100psi. After having the injectors rebuilt (cost me about 100USD) tractor has ran smooth at all rpms ever since.

YOU DONT SAY THAT IT IS GAS OR DIESEL. I WILL ASSUME IT IS DIESEL, THE FUEL FILTERS WILL DO THIS IF THEY ARE DIRTY BUT I THINK YOUR PROBLEM IS MORE LIKELY THE SPEED ADVANCE ADJUSTEMENT IN THE INJECTION PUMP. THERE IS ALSO A RUBBER GOVERNER WEIGHT RING THAT COULD BE BREAKING UP BUT THAT WILL CAUSE OTHER SYMPTOMS. BY THE WAY THE 3020'S DO NOT MISS AT HIGH IDLE WITH OUT A REASON. DON

My 3020 gas uses to run smooth, then it started to miss, and barely pull its own weight, we had the carb rebuild and head redone. It worked better know it is getting worse. I don't want to buy a new carb but i don't know what other options i have, please any suggestions
