How do you adjust the decompression. I am thinking that the valves might be open with engine running. Is there a certian procedure in adjusting this? How do i make sure that valve are not being held open?
And what should wot rpm be? Was plugging 3 bottom plow in 2 second gear. With wot, rpm is at 1400. Is this running to fast? Not sure if it will pull the 4 bottom plow. 3rd gear seems fast, but will pull 3 bottom(heavy soil). This is the first year using this tractor. Comparing it to the 3020 gas we use. Pull 4 bottom plow in 3rd gear on 3020.

WOT speed is 1275 as memory serves. We used to set them at 620 rpm on the pto. If you are running 1400 it's too fast.Don

JD Jack:

As far as WOT, on a 70D it's 1250.

On the decompression, turn the flywheel to #1 TDC, and rock the tappet lever on the exhaust valve. You should the have .020" valve clearance. Same for #2.

If you don't, disconnect the decompression link from the shaft that runs parallel to the cam, from the pulley side. This will disable the decompression feature. Then check valves again. If you have some clearance now, decomp lever has been holding them open.

After you have the .020" clearance at the rocker arm to valve stem, install a dial indicator against the valve spring cap of the #1 exhaust valve, and set it to 0". With the decomp lever engaged, the exhaust valve should get depressed .055-.080". Check #2 the same way. If not in spec, adjust the the turnbuckle on the decomp rod near the bottom of the clutch lever. Adjust until both valves are in spec.

That's it !
