I looked at a 401B at a dealer today (they were closed). This machine shows just over 1300 hours and has a label indicating it belonged to the US Corp of Engineers. From the looks of it I do not see the normal signs of abuse and excessive wear, so the hours may be pretty accurate. The tractor does have a dozer type blade on it. The blade frame bolts to the drawbar at the rear, and also where I believe a bumper would bolt on the ag version. All the hydraulic lines appear to be quickconnects. I wouldn't anticipate removing the blade a huge undertaking. I have two questions about the tractor that you all may be able to help me with. First, what ag version is the same as the 401 B (I realize the front axles will be completely different)? I've seen the 2030 mentioned, as well as the 2440. Second, the tractor has really small rear wheels, the tires are 12.6(?)X24, it sure seems the ag version would have had something like a large 28" tire. What size tires should be put on it to bring it closer to the ag version? BTW, this tractor is an 8 speed with gas engine. It has the PTO, and the clutch feels like a two-stage; plus has three-point hitch. If it runs as well as it looks this old gal has the potential to make a fine tractor for use on the farm, but I want to make sure parts can be readily found for her.
