How wide the rim need to be? I have 16.9 X 38 tire on it now. I want to put 15.5 X 38. Will the same rim work? Thank in advance, Eddie

According to the tire chart information : 16.9 -- 15 in rim 15.5 -- 14 in rim
I have 15.5x38 on my 3020 about shot and I have been looking for a little taller tire but doesn't have to be any wider . I just looked up this info on a Firestone website and thought I'd pass it on when I just saw your post .
I don't know how much difference it will make if you have a rim an inch either way , probably not much . Maybe a tire expert will help us out here .
I know a lot of pullers put wider than recommended rims on for pulling and they look funny . I've been thinking of putting 16.9's on the 14in rims but I'll do more checking first .

Eddie and Jim, I imagine both of your original rims are 14" wide and either a 15.5 or a 16.9 tire will work just fine. And yes, for pulling you would want a slightly wider rim for either tire but for general farm use the 14" will work fine for either tire. The new Traction Field and Road Firestone tires in a 16.9 size have the same tread width as a 15.5 but with a taller sidewall. The old All Traction Field and Road's in the 16.9 size were slightly wider, but the newer tires have the same tread width. I do custom machine cutting for tractor pulling tires and am very familiar with these tires. Hope this helps. Mike
