How many tractors have you got in your collection? You seen know a lot about nearly every model of the 2 cyl JD. I know you've helped me a lot with my H.
Thanks for your time.

Frank, I couldn't tell you if I had to. I'm sure my wife could tell you exactly how many & what I paid for each though.
~My fleet seems to vary with my storage options & what I am working on at the time.
~At the moment I seem to be getting heavy on the unstyled as I like those old hand starts. [plus I don't have all those batteries to worry about] ~I kind of move on to different tractor series as time goes on, & when I understand one series I move to the next....
~I guess I didn't really answer your question but we'll leave it at that..... .

Hurrah!!for hand starts, went to get out the "60" yesterday for a show today and 1 of the 2 6v. batteries has a bad cell. A nice Central Tractor battery(Central who???) which my neighbor claims that there 2yr.batterys were guaranteed to go just 2yrs.and 1 day. Seems cold as january out anyway, may rain, late to load, just might go without a tractor just to make the sun shine. Oh the '37 B popped off w/a 90 degree turn of the flywheel who needs batteries? But we wanted to take the "60" , came from and was sold new in the area where the show is. Decisions decisions!!! Seem to just be rambling hoping the sun will come back out here in central NY and none of this has anything to do w/the number of tractors you have, but i want to thank you for all your information and time spent on these "forums"(and with all that the sun still has not come out). Have a great day.

I like hand start tractors and hate dead batteries. But have you ever tried to hand start a 60 ? Give me batteries !!! anyday.Dead batteries is a small price to pay for the amount of extra work a 60 will do over an A or B .

Mike, actually I have hand started both a 60 & 70 gas at one time or other [using the steering wheel adapter]. I wouldn't recommend it as a daily way to start a 60 or 70 but it can be done.
~Not sure I could do it in real cold weather though.
~You are right, a 60 will do way more work than an A or B but a 720 diesel will work circles around a 60.
~I guess if it came down to just working with a tractor I wouldn't use any of the 2 cylinders, but I still like the sound & smell of a hand start D pulling a load on kerosene..... ...That is what makes this hobby great, anybody can have & use what they like best.

It seems that nearly everyone who posts on this forum owes Mr. Clooney a bit of thanks. He's helped me greatly both by his replies to posts here to others with similar problems and to me directly by e'mail. Thanks Clooney from all of us.
