I purchased a John Deere A with a 6 ft John Deere 3 pt mower. I tried to disconnect the mower but am having trouble disconnecting the pto attachment from the pto. There is a bolt running through the attachment and I loosened it but it will not disconnect. Is it simply frozen onto the pto or have I missed disconnecting something. This attachment does not appear to attach like most pto attachments with the push pin. I thought I would go to the experts before I ruined my pto shaft. I appreciate any help.

Has the power shaft been hooked up to the PTO for awhile? I've had problems when I was trying to unhook an attachment that was pretty much 'dedicated' to a certain tractor. Usually a good shot of WD-40 or some other good panther p... normally loosened it up after a five minute soak.HJ

You said you loosened the bolt. If the PTO is the old compresion type you have to completely remove the bolt. Sometimes a wedge driven into the slots of the PTO coupler will help make it slide off easier.

the bolt should have keep it on, however this is a rig type usage and someone probably tightened the bolt and compressed the collar. I would try some heat and slighty tap the collar. Then I would spend some money and put a new shaft on mower.
