I have a John Deere elevator like this one that I need parts for. Trouble is, I don't know what model it is. I can't find a model # anywhere on the machine!

Thanks,
Mike

(I have better pictures I can email)

I dug out an old brochure for an "18-1/2 inch wide bale elevator". It shows the truss framing on the side like yours. The brochure is from 1954, so it must be prior to the 300 and 350 elevators mentioned here.

The parts catalog for that elevator is PC380.

Hope this helps a little.

Stan

Mike, I believe this particular elevator didn't actually have a model number. But any parts man worth his salt should know that Deere didn't make that many elevator models over the years. The latest one is a model 428, which was made by another company, then there were the 300 and 350 series elevators that were not trussed on the sides like your elevator is. These machines had perforated sides. The parts list should have a picture of your elevator and the parts man should be able to figure it out by process of elimination. If you know what it "isn't", you can figure out what it "is". Hope this helps. Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the input. So far I've talked with 3 different dealers with little success. I've been mostly getting "kids" on the phone. Hopefully I can find somebody who knows a little more bout these things.

Here's a link to a close up of the part I need. You can see how it's been welded a few times and now my come-along is keeping the thing together. :-)

Mike, I am venturing a guess, but I would imagine this part quite likely is no longer available through Deere. I will look through my books this evening and see if I can get a part number for you (my guess is that it is J- something. If you look it might be on the boot casting. I'll see what I can do for you. Hi Mike,

The part number on the boot is 8088-C. One fella found that number in a book as a model "3".

Another fella thought the elevator was a "50" and the most recent part number was 7800-C (which he located at $125!! NOS). I could buy 5 of these elevators for that, but I really want to save it.

Here's a picture of the part number on the boot. It's a little tough to read...right by a weld.

Thanks for all your help on this one.

I just saw a JD elevator like that sell at auction for $200! I wish I could get 5 for $125.

Mike, did the parts man enter the number with the dash in it? If so, try again without it. The dash is seldom, if ever, used in the Deere system. Also, if you don't find the part in the Deere system you might try the Dealer Parts Network. Many John Deere dealers are affiliated with them. They are independent of Deere but buy obsolete and slow moving parts from dealers. They used to have quite an assortment of parts. I don't have the number, but your dealer should. If memory serves me right I think they are in Michigan, or perhaps Wisconsin. Mike

Mike, That's a number 50 elevator. It came 15.5 inches wide as measured inside trough. The later ones were 18.5 inches. I think that was the only difference. John Deere should have parts or there are a lot of them not being used for parts.

Hi Ralph,

I just got off the phone with a parts guy. Is there any chance this elevator is a model "3"?

The part numbers on the "series 50" are not matching up with what I have.

Thanks again,
Mike

Thanks Ralph! I thought it may be a "50 Series" but wasn't sure.

Best regards,
Mike
