Hi there,
My 4320 runs and starts great!!! Well at least it did before today... When I went to start her up... Nothing.. Not even a click. Batteries dead right?? Wrong. No problems there, so I discover that if I hot-wire the fuel shut off, and jump the solinoid, she fires right up!!! I gotta believe that the elec. system has a blown fuse/s in it somewhere. Also, I have not found any fuses yet, any thoughts on that as well?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to offer.

Steve Macomber

Steve, If you have lost all your key switch functions like fuel gauge and dash lights your suspicion is probably correct. Remove the cowl over the dash, locate the circuit breakers on the left side and there will be a single red wire coming off one of the lower breakers that has a inline fuse in it. This fuse protects all the key switch functions. It is a slow burn type but a regular fuse will work until you can get the correct one. Another place that you might check if fuse is OK is the large hot wire(s) on the back of the alternator. At the back of the alternator at the output lug terminal there is two heavy wires crimped in one single eyelet that will fail / break apart due to fatigue and vibration. This circuit comes from a circuit breaker located at the starter relay above starter, to the alternator then back to the fire wall connector which supplies the circuit breakers. Check your fuse first and then this circuit if you don't find it. Good Luck, Dave W.

Dave,
Thanks for all of your help!!!!

The problem turned out that the supply wire to the alternator was pinched (and shorted) between the back of the cylinder head and the firewall.. My guess is that this condition has existed since manufacture and finally wore through. Something other owners might want to be on the look-out for..

Thanks again,

Steve
