Just bought my first tractor, a 1966 1020 w/47 loader. Checked oil last night and found over full and smelling like gas. A previous owner has installed an electric fuel pump that runs off ignition, but also has an on/off toggle switch and shut off valve. Old fuel pump still on tractor but inlet and outlet looped together, so know it is not working. I am guessing electric pump may have too much pressure and pushing past carb, but not sure. Any ideas how gas could be getting in crankcase and do you think I would be better off replacing with a manual pump? All help appreciated, thanks.

Well, if it were mine I would first off trash the electric pump and put it back the way it came. I have had that problem on my 135 Massey and found that the float was just hanging on it. That may be what you have going on with yours as well. I would be willing to bet on it but the electric pump could be causing it too? In any event if you put the original pump back in action you will have less wiring and switches to worry about!

Thanks for your input. That is about what I had come up with too.

Hey only proves that great minds work alike!
Hope the thoughts helped somewhat. I am by no means an ace mechanic but I turn the wrenches on all my stuff. Let me know if that does fix the problem. Later!
