Hi guys, I am pretty new to tractors. I found an M from an old boy and he has offered it to me for $150. Yep, $150. Now, the head is off and cracked - he said it can be pinned. Other than that, it looks like it is mostly there. Tires are old, sheet metal is in ok shape. Definitely needs some love.
Question - for $150 can I really go wrong? Are parts for the Ms hard to find. Any idea of its real value? Any help is really appreciated.

The only problem with those kind of tractors,by
the time you get done fixing you will probably
have more in it than what it's worth, plus a lot
of time and labor.Good M's are pretty easy to
find, and don't bring that much.If you just want
something to restore, that's a different story,
but for a tractor to use there are a lot better
choices with 3pt,and live pto.

I'll second that, Ray. I've got 3,000.00 and a year and a half in a 39 H and it's not running yet. Still need a lot more stuff too. It's fun but expensive.

Sounds like you better give us the name and address of this M owner so I can personally go check it out for you. HA! HA! You better snatch it up fast before they change their mind. New heads are available aftermarket and work fine.

I just finished restoring a 1948 M. There are quite a few used parts for them out there. I found several web sites that listed M parts and there is usually a bunch of stuff on ebay. I got lucky on mine that it was in very good mechanical shape. The only things I will have to locate in the future are the headlights which were removed and one rear rim which is rusted. For $150, you can't go wrong. It will bring much more than that in parts.

I agree, sounds like a bargain. I think parts for 50s model tractor are easier to get now than they were 20 years ago.
