Another Roll-O-Matic Question

My tractor has a non-convertable pedestal(as I have just found out). I have been pumping grease into the grease fitting in the front between the tires and seems to be taking a ton! I think at last count, I was at 2 1/2 or 3 tubes of grease. Still no sign of any coming out anywhere, indicating that it's full. Is it normal that it might take so much grease?! Also, my manual states that there should be a pipe plug in front of the radiator (in the upper part of the pedestal) where I should be able to grease or lube, but I have no plug anywhere. Do I just keep pumping grease into her and will it eventually push it all the way up through or how is this designed? Just has me a little confused... Thanks in advance!

What serial number is your 50? My '53 50 has the non-convertible pedestal (as I mentioned in my previous response)and has an orchard style exhaust. It is s/n 5009570.

Bob.
First, thanks for the help on the grease issue. The serial number on my 50 is 5001461, or something VERY close to that. It is a pretty early '53. It has a vertical exhaust, but who knows what it had originally. I can see where the orchard-type exhaust would be nice, especially when getting them into a garage! I wouldn't consider switching though as I really like the pipe sticking out of the hood - I just put a new double walled chrome stack on, looks pretty sweet.

OH NO !!!! I wish you hadn't said that. Now that guy will come on here and say how every one that runs a chrome stack is an idiot. LOL just kidding. I like the looks of them either way.

Guy, that grease zerk is right above the lower bearing and allows the grease to fall onto the top side of the bearing. Above that is the tunnel for the vertical steering shaft. You're pumping grease up into that tunnel and you don't need to do that.

As for the mentioned plug at the top of the pedestal, mine (non-convertible pedestal) doesn't have one either. I just slop some grease in the steering gear and worm gear cavity at the very top and that's all.

Is this different from a late B? The manual on mine says to use transmission fluid in the steering shaft/sector gear area.
