I was wondering how to flush out and clean my power-trol on my 50. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Have a great day.

Depends on how much work you want to do.

My 48 A's powr-trol had two drain plugs: there's a plug in the base of the valve box and a plug beneath the hydraulic pump. The whole system holds about 7 quarts.

You can take off the valve box by removing 6 bolts. Be warned however that you risk tearing the gasket between the box and the rear-end. After removing the box, you can examine the innards for any problems.

If your system is operating correctly and all you want to do is drain and refill, then I don't see any need to remove the valve box. If it's displaying odd behavior, like not holding position, you'll probably need to go into the system deeper.

I've been told that you should use 30 wt. non-
detergent oil in the system. Apparently detergents either change the oil's hyraulic capabilities or loosen too much of the crud inside and cause leaks. You'll need to check the exact specs for your system as to what type of fluid to fill it with.

I bought a video explaining how to tear-down and rebuild the powr-trol (there's a link on this website for it somewhere). It was very informative. Also, there's a service manual on the powr-trol available from John Deere (SM-
2011).

Mine had a blown gasket inside the rear end. I had to drain the hyraulics and rear end (7 gallons!) to get at the problem.
