Frank,

I ended up pulling out the right turning brake assembly today. The bushings were shot. I ordered two sets of inner and out bushings today and will have by Monday. My JD parts man told me the inner bushings are no longer available from JD. His computer showed some dealers around the country to have a few. He shopped for the cheapest price of $24.00 ea. One dealer wanted $42.00 ea. JD has about 150 outer bushings in factory stock yet.

I will have her back together Monday or Tuesday. Thank you for all of your help.

Dick

Popper:

I'm glad you looked into it right away. You could have had a heck of big problem.

The bushings are no longer available for my 70D, and when I had the brakes apart, they really were not all that bad, so I reassembled them with new linings. I kept the dimensions, so I'll turn some bronze or oilite ones some day. I never checked McMaster-Carr, or a bearing supply house, but there might be something off the shelf a fella could modify.

Did the linigs get grease on them or was it just play in the bushings ?

Frank,

The linings were clean as a whistle. Just a small amount of brake dust which is normal. Some time in the past this brake unit had been removed. When they put it back they did not insert the alignment dowel pin in the mating hole on the side of the transmission case. Also, they did not replace the gasket which accounts for the leak on that side.

Thanks again.

Dick
