I have a bunch of small tractors but woudl like to get a little larger one now---30-50 hp. I thought about a G and i like them but i always thought those pony starters are unreal!! ARE these a good tractor (row Crop or wd front not standard) Do the ponies have any major drawbacks. How much money am i looking at spending here???? I just want a good running tractor in good shape and easibly restorable!!! thanks you guys

I have a 70 deisel that I really like.Unrestored you are probably looking at $2,000 to $2,500.Restored they would be $4,500 or more. The pony motor would be expensive to rebuild.I would not want to count on it to start in the winter.I have a model 50 that I use to plow snow. The 70 diesel I use to bush hog mow three acres three or four times each summer. It is very economical on fuel. I hope this helps you out. Don DeWald

Be very careful looking at 70 diesels as they were bad for the flywheel coming loose and ruining not only the flywheel but sometimes the crankshaft as well. Been there with a 720 diesel. I was lucky and got by putting a taper lock flywheel on my tractor. There is nothing else in the world to compare to the two cyl. diesels, good luck. PS I still wouldn't part with my G.

Either of the tractors are desirable. The G is a classic at the antique tractor pulls - they perform good, look good, sound good. The 70's, both Gas & Diesel, replaced the G, they have power steering (G's steer hard). The 70 doesn't seem to do as well at tractor pulls because of the high speed first gear but they are great work tractors. The pony start on the diesel tractor will start it quick in cold weather, but it means that you have an extra engine to maintain. Probably will have trouble finding a G for less than $3000.
