I have just purchased a used 214. It runs great except I have a hard time getting the mower to run. I ususally can monkey with the lever and get it going but not every time. The lever seems to over center when I engage it, but I cannot find a stop so I hold it where the blade starts running. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I can't find my manual right now, so I can't give the right proceedure or the specs, but, under the right-hand engine cover is the PTO clutch at the end of the Engine Drive Shaft. The clutch operates by pressing the mower drive pulley inward. There are two bolts on it that attach the heavy strap of metal to the engine. The one toward the front of the tractor is the pivot for the clutch and should be adjusted first. Loosen the lock nut and turn it in 1/2 turn at a time until you feel a slight pressure when the PTO lever over-centers; then tighten the lock nut. The rear bolt has a nut,a washer, a spring, the clutch engaging strap, a washer, a nut, another washer, and another spring. When the clutch is adjusted correctly, there should be a slight gap (about .010") between the Clutch Strap and the second washer & nut (the one on the engine side of the Clutch Strap)when the PTO is engaged. Also, when you get the clutch adjusted, the Clutch Strap moves back & forth between the two pins on the front bolt, touching the outside one when engaged, and the inner one when disengaged. Hope this helps.

Thanks works like a champ now. I tried it this past weekend and mowed tall wet grass with no problems. I really appreciate it.
