I have a 1947 Model D that starts excellent and runs excellent but has low oil pressure. At high idle with a master gauge it shows about 9 lbs. I have the crank case cover off and am looking down into the engine from the flywheel side. I see the bolt on the back side of the oil filter that I believe you loosen to be able to turn the pressure regulating bolt. If I am correct so far...do you turn the pressure regulating bolt clockwise? If you do how far do I turn it to get maybe 5 more lbs of oil pressure. What I am trying to save is having to put it all back together in order to start it to check how many lbs I have increased the oil pressure. Thanks very much for your help.

Bootman, you probably will have to remove the little metal cover over the adjusting screw to get good access to the adjusting bolt.
~It sounds like you have the correct idea on adjusting the pressure regulating screw.
~I don't know how much you will have to turn the screw, or if adjusting it will even help (my guess would be 1 turn in to start with). The usual cause of low oil pressure is a warped oil filter can at the filter head due to over-tightening the oil filter cover, worn bearings, broken oil line, or oil that is too thin (what weight oil are you using). The "D" is also sensitive to the oil pump cover gasket thickness & a thinner gasket under the oil pump cover will sometimes do wonders for oil pressure.
~As long as you have the crankcase cover off you might as well try turning the pressure screw in to see if that helps. The pressure regulating mechanism can only control the amount of oil (pressure) that by-passes the filter head & won't add pressure if the pump can't produce it, or if more oil than the pump can produce is leaking from the bearings, broken lines, or filter head to filter can gasket area..... ..
